"Today" next single?

Mutya Keisha Siobhan after their performance at London's G-A-Y talks about plans for their next single and what we can expect from their UK tour. Interview for DigitalSpy.

Hi Mutya Keisha Siobhan, how are you feeling at this very moment?
Keisha: "I'm really sad!"
Mutya: "Oh my god it's so hot in here."

Why are you sad, Keisha?
Keisha: "My friend is moving to Dubai tomorrow."

That's a shame, but the gig went quite well, didn't it? You seem to have a very loyal gay fanbase; does that make these sorts of gigs a walk in the park?
Mutya: "They were amazing out there, weren't they?"
Siobhan: "For me, it just takes the pressure off. It doesn't even feel like work when the crowd is reacting like that. It's basically just a big party when everyone is just singing along."

Who gets the most nervous and needs calming down before a show?
Keisha: "It literally depends on what day it is as to who's feeling like what. Today, I had loads of Red Bull's before the gig because I was nervous and then I crashed when I was on stage. I really crashed today. I went on stage feeling like I was in my pyjamas."
Siobhan: "I discovered something amazing tonight. Haribo sour cherries cure the tickly cough I get from nerves. They get your saliva going. Yes, I really did just say that."

'Flatline' has officially been 'released'. How does it feel now the song is finally out there?
Siobhan: "It's a bit of a relief as we've been dying to get the music out there and it's been a long time coming. It's great to start the campaign and get going with the tour. The tour is what it's all about really as our live performance is such an important part of what we are. In that respect, the single has done the job it was meant to do."

There seemed to be a lot of frustration that the song wasn't played much on the radio. Why do you think it was lost on them?
Keisha: "I don't think our song got lost on the radio. I think there were certain things that happened behind the scenes that couldn't be helped. Our goal was to put a song out that people liked and we think we've done that. If we wanted to record an easy throwaway hit then we would have put something out back in 2010 after we first met up. We didn't because we won't compromise our music and we're here for the long haul. Also, it's all about the album really and not just the singles for us."

The new(ish) songs you performed this evening were 'Lay Down By Swimming Pools', 'Today' and 'Flatline'. Are we correct in thinking we heard the second single tonight?
Siobhan: "Possibly. We couldn't possibly confirm or deny. You'll have to wait and see. Which track are you referring to?"

Obviously we're referring to 'Today'.
Keisha: "Everyone seems to like that track, but we can't confirm that yet."
Siobhan: "It might be something that no-one has heard yet. A song we haven't performed live before..."

Such as?
[silence]

Will we hear the song this side of 2014?
Mutya: "We're not sure when the next single is going to radio, we don't have the date yet. The fourth quarter is a bit scary."
Siobhan: "You should hear it before Christmas - it'll be released early next year."

Your upcoming UK tour is called 'Sacred Three'. Who came up with that title?
Keisha: "Me! I just think because there's three of us and, well, it's sacred! It's like saying the original Sugababes without actually saying it."

Will you be performing any of your solo songs on the tour?
Mutya "Nah. No. I hope not!"
Siobhan: "To be honest, there's so much material from us that it's a tricky one. We'll be doing the new album, the One Touch and some of the Sugababes stuff in between. It's all about the gel of the three creative inputs. If you take it back to our solo stuff then it becomes less about that."
Keisha: "They'll be a surprise at the end of the tour as well."

We've heard that one before, Keisha.
Keisha: "I know, I know! But there will be. That's all I'm saying."

Fair enough. So the album comes out early next year; what happens after that?
Keisha: "We want to enjoy the next few months before the album comes out. To be honest, when it comes out we'll most likely hit the studio and start recording the next album. We're already thinking and talking about it. We want to hit the ground running."
